Brian Robert Calfano, Ph.D.
Dr. Brian Calfano (Ph.D., University of North Texas, 2007) is Assistant Professor of Political Science and a 2009 Service-Learning Faculty Fellow at Missouri State University.
Dr. Calfano is the director of The Missouri State University Poll. The poll is conducted through the Center for Social Science and Public Policy Research in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs.
He is the coordinator of the Graduate Student Mentoring Program of the Religion and Politics Section of the American Political Science Association.

Dr. Calfano's research and teaching interests include political behavior, religion and politics, and democratization. He is the author of more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles appearing (or forthcoming) in Political Research Quarterly; Political Behavior; State Politics and Policy Quarterly; Social Science Quarterly; Politics and Religion; The American Review of Politics; Journal of Church and State; Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion; Democratization; and Critique: Critical Middle Eastern Studies. He has also contributed to several edited volumes, including: Representing God at the State House: Religion and Politics in the American States; Righteousness and Justice: Religion, Barack Obama, and the 2008 Election; and Race, Religion, and the American Presidency.
His current research focuses on the political behavior of American Muslims, Catholic priests, and Middle East publics, and is conducting research in collaboration with faculty at the American University of Beirut, Yarmouk University, and the University of Manchester. He has received research grants from the Religious Research Association, the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, and The American Political Science Association.
